If you follow my Facebook page you already know I love making tea pot girls using vintage tea and coffee pots. After making the teapot girls I was left with the matching sugar bowls so I decided to try making some sugar bowl girls and I think they came out beautiful. No worries; if you can’t find any vintage silver sugar bowls you can also use glass or porcelain sugar bowls.
Making a sugar bowl girl is like putting a puzzle together. After finding a sugar bowl you will need to find something to use as the dress. I have used light covers and bowls that I found at a thrift store. For the heads try to find a round glass votive holder; they make great heads.
Materials I Used
- A vintage silver sugar bowl or a pretty porcelain sugar bowl
- Glass light fixture covers such as those for fan lights, or small bowls
- Round glass votive holder for the head
- Necklace optional
- Gorilla Clear Grip Adhesive
- Use a metal file if you can not get the head to fit on the sugar bowl
Step One
First, ensure all your pieces will fit together. Place the sugar bowl onto the item you are using as a base and look to see where you believe the two pieces are touching. If the head does not fit properly use a metal file to carefully file the insides of the feet a little at a time then try the head again. Repeat until the head fits properly.

Apply Gorilla Clear Grip adhesive to the inside of the sugar bowl where you believe it contacts the base. Place the sugar bowl onto the base to ensure the adhesive is in the right spot. Remove the sugar bowl, add a little more adhesive, and let it set for about 3 or four minutes, this will help the adhesive grip quicker. Place the sugar bowl onto the base.

Let it set for about 30 minutes before adding the head. If your sugar bowl seems to keep tilting to one side find something you can prop under the handle to make it stay straight.

Step Two
While the sugar bowl is setting place the lid onto the head and see where the two pieces are touching. Add Gorilla clear grip adhesive to the inside of the lid, let it set for about 3 minutes then place it onto the head. Set aside for about 20 minutes.

Step Three
After about 30 minutes check your pieces to see if they are stable. If you can move them without any pieces shifting you are now ready to adhere the head to the body.
Apply Gorilla clear grip adhesive to the bottom of the head and attach it to the body. Set aside for about 30 minutes.

After about 30 minutes check to see if all the pieces of your sugar bowl are secure.
Now you can add any jewelry you would like. If the necklace you want to use is to long you can use a fine wire to wire the end pieces of the necklace together so it will be shorter and sit where you would like.
Below are photos of the way I finished my sugar bowl girls. I still haven’t decided what I want to add to the smallest girl.

I hope you make a sugar bowl girl; it is fun searching for all the pieces and putting her together and seeing your final creation. I would love to see your sugar bowl girl!
