DIY Dollar Tree Mini Carrots

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Easter is fast approaching along with beautiful weather yay. If you are like me and decorate for Easter you are going to love these adorable little mini carrots. I was shopping in the Dollar Tree and I just happen to see these little plastic carrots filled with power candy I knew I had to get them and make then into mini carrots. You can wrap them in yarn or jute. I did both so I would have different textures.

Here is a list of what you will need:

  • Package of powder candy filled plastic mini carrots (Dollar Tree)
  • Orange Yarn
  • Jute Twine
  • Orange Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Greens for the carrot top (Hobby Lobby)
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Double face tape (Dollar Tree)

Wrapping the Carrots

The first thing you need to do is empty the powder out of the carrots and rinse the insides. Starting at the bottom of the carrot place a piece of double face tape over the tip of the carrot. Cover the rest of the carrot with double face tape stopping just before the top of the carrot. You are not going to cover the top of the carrot or the screw part of the carrot with tape you will be using hot glue here. Place the end of your yarn or jute at the tip of the carrot and start wrapping the carrot. Continue wrapping stopping just before the top of the carrot.  Add hot glue around the top of the carrot then wrap with the yarn or jute. Add hot glue around the screw part of the carrot and wrap with yarn or jute. Do not cut the end yet.

Adding the Greens

Take a small amount of your greens add hot glue down inside the top of the carrot then place greens down into the top of the carrot. Wrap the yarn or jute around the bottom of the greens about 2 or 3 times then cut. Add hot glue to the end of the yarn or jute and glue down. Cut a small piece of jute twine and hot glue at the tip of the carrot this will be the root.

If you wrapped your carrots with jute and would like to add a little orange color to them dip your paintbrush into the orange paint dab on a paper towel then dry brush your carrots. I have so many projects going on at once I forgot to take photo’s of dry brushing the jute carrots orange.

You are now finished with your little carrots. I hope you have enjoyed making them I think they are very simple and quick to make. These little carrots would make adorable bowl fillers or they would be so cute on a tiered tray decorated for Easter. I hope you check out my other blogs while you are here.
