Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Materials You Will Need:

Bags of starfish from Dollar Tree. They come 3 starfish in a bag so depending on how many napkin rings you are going to make will depend on how many bags you will need.

  • Plastic shower curtain rings from the dollar tree. They are sold 12 in pack.
  • 1 roll of natural jute cord from the Dollar Tree
  • White chalk paint
  • Waverly chalk paint in the color mineral
  • Rust-Oleum clear matt sealer
  • Paint Brush
  • Scissors
  • Paper Towel
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Painting The Starfish

Paint both side of your starfish with the Waverly mineral color chalk paint, let dry.  It only took me one coat of the mineral color chalk paint but if you feel you need a second coat you can paint them again and let dry.  After the starfish are dry you are now going to dry brush with the white chalk paint.  If you have never dry brushed before this means you dip your paintbrush a little into the paint then blot onto a paper towel. Dry brush the starfish with the white chalk paint as much or as little as you like until you achieve a look you are happy with then let dry.  After your starfish are dry spray the back of the starfish with a clear sealer let dry then spray the front of the starfish with the sealer and let dry.  I like to use the Rust-Oleum clear matt or dead flat clear sealer.

Wrapping The Shower Curtain Rings

Cut a 10 foot long piece of your natural jute cord then wrap into a small ball.  Close your shower curtain ring then add a small drop of hot glue to the closure area then glue the end of the jute cord to the shower curtain ring.  Start wrapping the shower curtain ring filling in the area where you snap the shower curtain closed until it is even with the rest of the shower curtain ring.  Continue wrapping the shower curtain ring all the way around until you get back to where you started.  Add a small drop of hot glue to the shower curtain ring then glue down the jute cord.  If you have any extra cord trim off.

Attaching The Starfish

First start by holding the starfish to the shower curtain ring to see how you would like the starfish next add hot glue to the middle of the starfish on the back side and glue to the ring where you started and ended with the jute cord.

You now have your napkin rings finished and ready to add to your beach themed table setting.  I hope you give them a try!
