Vintage Silver Wall Sconce

I just love collecting vintage silver pieces to use in my decorating and in my craft projects. If you have any only silver pieces that are from your mom or grandmother this would be a great piece into which you can incorporate them. You can use any shape and size platter; just make sure you have a proper size ladle or serving spoon.

Materials I Used

  • Vintage Silver Plater. I used a 10″ in the above photo and at the end I will show you a sconce I made with an oval platter.
  • Vintage silver ladle or serving spoon. I used a small ladle whose handle measured about 6″ long.
  • Silver tart mold. I used a 2″ mold, which came in a set I ordered from Amazon.
  • Metal candle cup
  • Gorilla clear grip adhesive
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Command picture hanging strips
  • 4″ candle and 1″ candle ring
  • hammer

Step 1

First bend the ladle part upwards (you should be able to bend it with your hands). Next, lay the ladle onto the platter to see if it is bent upwards enough. Check the top of the handle to see if it lays flat enough to apply the glue so it will attach to the platter. Remove the spoon from the platter and place the candle cup in the center of the ladle to see if it sits flat. My ladle had a design so I needed to hammer the center a little to flatten it. My ladle handle was curved so I used a hammer to flatten the handle a little. If you are using a serving spoon, follow the same directions as a ladle.

Step 2

Hold the bottom of the tart mold against the bottom of a spoon or ladle to see if it lays flat. My tart mold had a small bump in the middle so I also used the hammer to flatten it. Apply clear grip adhesive to the bottom of the candle cup leaving a very small section uncovered. Add hot glue to the uncovered section then attach it to the center of the ladle or spoon.
Apply Gorilla Clear Grip adhesive to the bottom of the tart mold leaving a small section uncovered. Apply hot glue to the uncovered area, then attach it to the bottom center of the ladle or spoon.
Step 3
Apply Gorilla Clear Grip adhesive to the top back of the handle then apply some hot glue and attach it to the platter. You can attach it in the middle of the platter, or you can judge where you would like it. I attached mine where the tart mold was almost to the bottom of the platter.
Apply command picture strips to the back of the platter. Before adding a candle and candle ring let the adhesive dry for at least an hour; then it will be ready to hang and decorate. Below are photos of the silver sconce I made using a serving spoon and an oval platter. I also used a vintage tart mold.
I hope you like this idea and make a few sconces to use in your home.
